Guizhou's tea output booms in 2021

Southwest China's Guizhou province held its tea industry development conference in the provincial capital city of Guiyang on Jan 6 – with the event reporting on the sector's growth and advances in 2021 and outlining its development goals for 2022.

According to the conference, Guizhou's total tea cultivation area was 7 million mu (466,667 hectares) last year, with an output of 469,900 metric tons worth 57.10 billion yuan ($8.95 billion).

The output represented an increase of 7.74 percent year-on-year and the output value rose 13.32 percent year-on-year.

In 2021, Guizhou was home to 5,813 tea processing companies and cooperatives, ranking it second in China. Guizhou also had 173 tea companies, each with annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more.

Last year, the province exported $300 million worth of tea, up 34.9 percent on the previous corresponding period. Its provincial tea brands were used by 1,170 companies at national, provincial and municipal levels.

In the current year, plans are for Guizhou to continue to improve its tea quality, expand the size of resident tea companies, strengthen its tea brands and increase the incomes of more growers.

The province is also aiming to achieve annual tea output worth 63 billion yuan and exports valued at $400 million.
