The Asian Mountain Tourism Promotion Conference, organized by the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA), will be held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 17-21.

Representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other government departments, companies, international organizations and industrial associations will attend the conference.

Statistics show that mountains account for a quarter of the global land area, 75 percent of the countries in the world have mountains, and mountain tourism accounts for 15-20 percent of the world's tourism market.

Guizhou's unique environment and ecosystem make it famous for mountain tourism. In recent years, Guizhou has introduced an international mountain tourism conference system and the headquarters of IMTA is to become an international first-class mountain tourism destination.

Initiated by Guizhou province in 2017, IMTA is the world's first non-governmental and non-profit international organization focusing on mountain tourism. It currently has 189 members from 33 countries and regions.

In the past few years, IMTA has organized various activities to provide platforms for the sharing of mountain tourism development experience, promotion of mountain civilization, and boosting the development of the mountain economy.

IMTA will continue to use its resources and connections to promote cooperation between mountain tourism destinations, research institutions and companies in Asia and explore an approach to help tourism recover after the COVID-19 pandemic.
