Miao people usher in New Year with Rice Planting Festival

Dangweng village of Congjiang county, Guizhou province, ushered in the annual "Rice Planting Festival" on Jan 28. Villagers of Miao dressed in traditional costumes, sang and danced together to welcome the festival.

Rice Planting Festival is a traditional festival for local Miao people, the festival usually falls on the fifth to the 10th day after the Spring Festival. During the celebration, the Miao people come together and dance with lusheng (reed pipes). Their traditional performances also help to usher in a brand new year.
