The price of carwashes in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, will be determined by the market instead of government direction, the Guizhou Bureau of Commodity Price announced on Tuesday.

In order to implement the direction of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party, Guizhou province will let the market determine the price of car washes. The measure has already been approved by the Guizhou provincial government.

According to the notification, proprietors shall set the price of carwashes independently in accordance with the market principles of fairness, legitimacy, honesty and credibility.

Proprietors shall set an obvious price tag at their stations that will include service items, service content, price standards and the hotline number 12358. No additional price shall be charged except the amount listed.

One owner of a vehicle cleaning station said that the new measure is more reasonable and stations can offer packaged services, which will also promote healthy competition.

"Although the price will be determined by the market rather than the government, each price control department of the local government will strengthen supervision at each vehicle cleaning station," the bureau of commodity price stressed."To maintain a fair market environment, any proprietor involved in illegal actions such as price fraud, collusion or failing to list prices clearly will be severely punished."

Meanwhile, some citizens are still worried that proprietors will raise the price of carwashes."I understand the market principle, but if the price is too high, I will clean the car myself," a car owner said.
