Over the past five years, Guiyang has invested more than 40 billion yuan ($6.6 billion) into public transportation, including a series of main ring roads and highway projects.
The projects have not only helped expand Guiyang's urban road network, but have also eased traffic pressure.
Traffic congestion has long been a problem for city residents in Guiyang. Hu Xin, director of the transportation division of the Guiyang planning bureau, believes that a long-term public transportation plan is necessary to meet the ever-changing needs of citizens.
In the next stage, Guiyang will inject another 80 billion yuan ($11.69 billion) into public transportation infrastructure, half of which will be used for rail projects and half of which will go to road and interchange projects.
