With annual air cargo traffic reaching only 70,000 tons, the building of an airport economic zone in Guiyang, Guizhou province, will definitely instill energy into the city's development, according to Li Wei, deputy chief of Nanming district.

As Guiyang attracts many high-tech companies based in China’s Silicon Valley, Zhongguancun Science Park, each district of the city is planning to optimize its industry structure for developing the high-tech sector.
Li said that the airport economic zone must develop towards internationalization and advanced levels under a clear direction.
The road network in the airport economic zone now stretches more than 20 kilometers. Its whole framework has been formed. The current industry in the zone contains two aviation logistics parks and a modern airline base for food production.
“We are also negotiating related businesses with China Railway Signal & Communication Co, expecting the company to set up its western research and development center in Guiyang,” Li introduced. Other projects include cooperation with China Aviation Industry Group and China Southern Airlines.
By the end of this month, the plans for the airport economic zone will be announced. With the plan, the district could bring in projects with a clearer aim so that those industries may develop better.
Since Nanming district is typically an old area in the city, the high urban density makes the improvement of the city environment a crucial task for the government, according to Li. “Our target is to dismantle more old buildings and construct less so as to improve the living quality,” he added.
Within the year, the district will make great changes by developing high-tech projects, transforming traditional industries as well as undertaking urban replanning. “During the process, we also hope to attract more talents to improve the overall quality of officials,” Li said.
