Guizhou established its National Eco-Civilization Demonstration Zone on 5 June after receiving approval from National Development and Reform Commission, along with five other departments.
The construction of the Zone aims to help less-developed areas with rich resources explore sustainable methods of growth, enhancing the protection of eco-systems in the upper streams of the Yangtze and Zhujiang rivers.
The demonstration zone is being encouraged to take the lead in implementing performance appraisal for the building of an ecological civilization, building ecological compensation mechanisms and carrying out international communications in this field.
By 2020, the Eco-Civilization Demonstration Zone's development is expected to widely promote a green life style with complete management systems, and share the development experience with other cities.
