The T1 project started last year, expanding the terminal area to 30,000 sq meters and linking with T2. At present, its investment has been more than 200 million yuan ($32.2 million).
It is expected that the whole project will be completed at the beginning of next year, with the total area of the two terminals amounting to 210,000 sq meters. By then, the airport should meet a passenger throughput of 18.5 million people.
With the enlarging of airport traffic and the increasing number of passengers, Guiyang airport needs to greatly improve its infrastructure. T1 was first brought into service in May 1997, covering an area of only 36,868 sq meters at that time and the design could only handle 1,560 passengers during peak hours.
