The selection event of "China Happiest City" 2014 officially started on July 29 in Beijing. Guiyang became one of the candidate cities.
The selection event, jointly organized by the Oriental Outlook and China Association of Mayors, has been held for eight consecutive years.
Especially for this year's event, the event is held together with the opening of the China City Soft Power Evaluation. As a result, there are two rewards: China Happiest City and China City with Most Soft Power.
The result will be announced on October 31, which is also World City Day. The 2014 Report on China City Soft Power and the 2014 Report on China Happiest City will also be released on that day.
According to the organizers, the evaluation and selection work will be launched this August. Measures include household surveys, public inquiry and materials declaration.
"It is the first time that a city's soft power is included in the evaluation and we hope the new action will help promote China's soft power at home and abroad," said an official of the event organizer.
