The No 1 light rail will have 24 stations and cover 23 areas, along a total length of 34.3 kilometers.
After completion, passenger flows are expected to reach 660,000, which can account for 16 percent of the total passenger flow.
"The light rail has the same function as a subway, but considering the mountainous terrain of Guiyang city, the construction has been customized to adapt to the special conditions," said Li.
The construction of Guiyang's rail transit system started in 2005 and in 2008, the Guiyang municipal government officially approved the Guiyang Rapid Transit System Planning. According to the plans, there will be four rapid transit lines after completion, with a total of 81 stops with eight of them being exchange stations, covering most locations in Guiyang.
