The 2014 Guizhou Silver Industry Expo concluded in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, on the morning of October 19.

The highlight of the expo was a golden wedding anniversary, in which 20 elderly couples in suits and wedding dresses celebrated their golden marriage.

One couple, He Mingjun and Cui Yilan, said, "We are from Hunan province, but we currently live in Guiyang. It is our first time to join a golden wedding anniversary like this, which reminds us of our youth and our first date. We are very happy and excited."

The silver industry expo opened on October 14 and lasted until October 20. More than 200 companies presented as many as 600 products and services at the expo, ranging from intelligent products for the elderly, housing for the elderly, tourism and leisure for senior citizens, food and health care, medical devices and medicine.

Also, a calligraphy exhibition, a dancing show, a Chinese opera performance and a fashion show were held during the expo, featuring various aspects of elderly life.

According to official statistics, the elderly take up 7.1 percent of China's total population. China is a rapidly aging society.

Taking Guizhou province as an example, currently, 13 percent of Guizhou's total population consists of elderly people. It is important to deal with the aging problem.

Zhang Furun, director of the Guizhou Aging Industrial Association, said that the first Guizhou Silver Industry Expo opened in 2012. It has provided a very good platform for senior citizens to communicate and exchange, as well as for elderly products manufacturers and elderly service agencies to promote their products and services. He believes that the annual expo can accelerate the development of Guizhou's elderly industry and its economy and society.
