The 632 kilometer-long railway starts from Chengdu South Station and ends in Guiyang, passing through Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. It has been given the title of the first high-speed railway in mountainous regions of the world.

The construction began on Dec 25 last year. Upon its completion, the railway will allow a top speed of 250 km per hour and it will take only 2.5 hours to go from Chengdu to Guiyang, 10 hours less than it does today.
