The average income of rural permanent residents of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, exceeded 10,820 yuan ($1,745) in 2014.The average income of urban residents reached beyond 24,960 yuan ($4,025) in 2014, according to the Guiyang survey team of the National Bureau of Statistics on February 26.

In accordance with statistics from the NBS, the average rural income climbed unprecedentedly to 10,000 yuan with 12.7 percent of growth compared to that of 2013.

Meanwhile, Guiyang achieved 9.4 percent in year-on-year growth of average urban income, or roughly 6.5 percent of actual growth after adjusting for inflation.

According to the number, the income gap between rural and urban areas is shrinking. The growth in rural areas outperformed urban areas by 3.3 percentage points.

The gap between urban and rural incomes in 2013 was 2.4 times. That number decreased to 2.3 in 2014.

Salary has become the most important factor to influence resident income, accounting for 58.9 percent of urban resident income, an increase of 2.7 percentage points.

However, 52.3 percent of rural resident income comes from salaries, 3.9 percentage points higher than 2014.

Although Guiyang is the capital city of Guizhou province, one of the poorest areas in China, the average income gap in comparison to other provinces is huge.
