May completion date for first stage of Guiyang's free WiFi project

The first stage of Guiyang's free WiFi project which will cover 12.8 square kilometers will be completed on May 1, according to Mao Youbi, NPC deputy and also deputy mayor of Guiyang, the capital of southwest China's Guizhou province.
To coincide with the implementation of free WiFi in city, data security will also be promoted simultaneously in Guiyang.
"The data security supervision commission will be founded to supervise data collected from big data trading centers. Meanwhile, Guiyang People's Congress will adopt the power of legislation to ensure data security," said Mao.
As the first city in China to develop a free WiFi network covering the whole city, Guiyang's optical network will be adopted for the free WiFi project to set up an independent Internet gateway.
"As a worldwide pioneering and landmark demonstration project, it is the foundation of Guiyang's big data era," said Mao.
The first stage of the project will cover public areas such as the city's railway and bus stations, avenues, Central Business Districts and libraries. In subsequent stages of the project, surrounding counties and residential communities will be covered.
