International Boxing Season opening in Guiyang

The International Boxing Association's international boxing season is coming to the city of Guiyang, Guizhou province this Saturday at the Guiyang Zhongtian Exhibition Center, after which, according to an association news conference in May, Guiyang wil provide a permanent home for the international boxing season.

This Saturday's events include four tournaments – the AIBA Pro-Boxing preliminary, APB finals, APB championship, and AIBA Open Boxing China Open tournament – with the association noting that 14 boxers will be taking part, including Lu Bin, AIBA Pro Boxing 49-kg world championship and candidate for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and Wu Zhonglin, from Guizhou, who will have an opportunity to fight Lu.

The association is an organization that support amateur boxing with world and subordinate championships and a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games through World Series of Boxing and AIBA Pro Boxing tournies.

Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou province and is attempting to turn itself into the "Capital of boxing" in cooperation with the association and major sports companies, local officials have announced and it is the first city in the world to become a permanent international boxing season host city.

The province is home to many famous boxers, such as Zou Shiming, China's most successful amateur boxer of all time with three amateur world titles at World Amateur Boxing Championships in 2005, 2007 and 2011.
