Southwest China's Guizhou province has plans to put 40 billion yuan ($6.44billion) into a 3-year county road improvement project, starting Jan 1, 2016, local authorities have reported, noting that they expect this massive project to bring many technical, security, and transportation improvements.

In the year of 2016 – 2018 period, about 17,500 kilometers of county roads, 17,000 kilometers of road safeguard construction, and 6,000 kilometers of pavement reconstruction are expected to be complete.

The roads connect 12 industrial parks, 17 modern farm demonstration bases, 20 urban demonstration sites, and highways to 17 different tourist attractions.

It calls for provincial and county officials to raise some of the construction funds on their own if central government subsidies fail to cover some parts, while the building demolition and resettlement is to be handled by local governments.

National resource and forestry officials are being told to ensure the proper land quotas for county road reconstruction and forests, while transport departments will need to establish databases for the reconstruction work and better management, and to provide support, and find ways to measure the progress, as a basis for further construction improvements.
