The 2015 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial Bruxelles is set to take place in the city of Guiyang, Guizhou province, in late August where vintners and experts and alcohol aficionados from around the world can gather.

The event, first held in Brussels, Belgium in 1999, has grown into the world's biggest, most authoritative spirits event of its kind and has been held annually in such cities as Lisbon, Maastricht, Bordeaux, and Sicily.

The theme of this year's event is, "Guiyang's best white spirits for the world", a reference to Guizhou province being the home of Moutai, the ultimate national spirit brand.

A deputy mayor of Guiyang, Gao Weidong, says that this multifaceted event will give greater exposure to Guizhou's reputation as the "home of national spirits", promote cooperation with international spirits producers, and increase technical innovation in spirits production.

Gao went on to say, "We'd like to pay tribute to Concours Mondial Bruxelles by building a spirits museum and put bottles of local and international brands on display," then added on a grander note, "and this event will no doubt take our tourism to a whole new level."

The Guizhou government has hosted the Guizhou International Alcohol Exposition four times, with China's Commerce Ministry's help to help the local wine industry develop, the same time nominating Concours Mondial Bruxelles as a key part of the fifth alcohol exposition.

In additional to its wine industry, another reason for Guiyang being chosen to host this event is its ecology, environment, ease of transport, success with similar events in the past, and comfortable temperatures. Work on the venue, the Guiyang International Shopping Mall in the Guanshan Lake district, is nearing an end. It is meant to represent an ancient Chinese wine cooler, the "tong bing jian", and China's long familiarity with alcohol.
