The city of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province is going to be getting a light rail line that connects most downtown areass as well as older and newer areas, local authorities say on Aug 17.

They had a conference on the day to discuss the methods to reduce traffic congestion caused by the construction work, which will start in September.

The chief engineer of urban traffic management, Li Yongqian, has suggested that people use public transportation as much as possible to release the traffic stress near construction sites, while the chief engineer of a local company that is involved, Chen Fada, says that they will try to keep the negative impact on traffic at a minimum by giving privilege to the public transportation and taking fully consideration of pedestrians.

The light railway line runs from a Qiji Road station to Youzha Street, with 24 stations in all so it is expected to cut traffic pressures in the downtown area considerably.
