The number of tourists soared in southwest China's Guizhou province during the three-day-long holiday of Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Festival, from April 5-7, due to moderate weather, a free pass through toll roads, and the special supply of tourism products offered during the holiday period.
Data shows that the province received approximately 16.74 million tourists and generated a total of 9.37 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) in tourism revenue, an increase of 22.5 percent and 30.6 percent year- on-year respectively.
During the three-day holiday, 108 major scenic spots in Guizhou received 3.6 million tourists, of which 30 scenic spots received more than 30,000 tourists.
A series of activities, including a sacrificial ceremony, a spring outing, and a folk blessing ceremony, showcased the integration of culture and tourism. Cultural feasts such as the 'San Yue San' festival and a long-table banquet offered richer experiences to tourists.
Red tourism also saw a boom over the holiday. Red tourism attractions, including the Site of the Zunyi Conference, Xifeng Concentration Camp, and the cemeteries of famous martyrs, attracted a large number of tourists interested in paying respect to the sacrifice of revolutionary martyrs and remember their history.
Self-driving vehicles were a popular way for spring outings during the holiday. A large number of tourists, from inside and outside the province, chose short local tours to enjoy idyllic scenery of Guizhou by car.
Through the media channels of influential online patforms, WeChat and Weibo, the cultural tourism resources of Guizhou have been further promoted to the world. Up to April 7, 4.83 million news items about Guizhou tourism during Tomb-Sweeping holiday were able to be found through the Baidu search engine.
