People living in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou province, are feeling happier due to the improvement of the city's ecological greenways, which include 1032.58 kilometers in different parks, accounting for over 65 percent of all the greenways across the city.
Guiyang's ecological network system, including greenway, parks, and greenbelts, has now been created. The urban-rural greenways have changed citizens' lives in several ways.
With a deeper connection of greenways in rural areas, more tourists and cyclists have been attracted to remote villages, effectively stimulating the development of agritainment businesses and increasing local residents' incomes.
To build a healthy city, the greenways for slow traffic and sports have played a significant role. A slow-traffic system stretching 60 km has been constructed in Guanshanhu district since 2013, including greenways in main parkways, parks, scenic spots, and ecological corridors.
In 2015, a 10-km plastic footpath for fitness came into use and several marathons have been held in Guanshanhu since. It has also attracted women in municipal agencies to participate in the running race that takes place every March 8, creating a beautiful scene in Guanshan Lake Park.
Guiyang has consistently been dedicated to the target of developing itself into a city with thousands of parks, so the city has put the renovation of shanty areas and old communities as priorities on its working list. Improvement work has been achieved greatly in Quanhu Park and Nanpulu community.
The city has also taken many other measures to create a comfortable ecological environment, such as ecological greenway construction, protection and restoration of bare mountains, landscape promotion, census of deserted lands, as well as ecological management.
