Strong start to the year as Guiyang's GDP rises 6.2%

Data show that in the first quarter of this year, the regional gross domestic product (GDP) of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, reached 117.77 billion yuan ($16.3 billion), a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent.

Of this total, the added value of the primary industry reached 3.43 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.0 percent; that of the secondary industry reached 44.12 billion yuan, up 9.8 percent, and that of the tertiary industry reached 70.22 billion yuan, up 4.3 percent.

During this period, the total output value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery industries reached 6.05 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 4.0 percent. The forestry and fishery industries increased the most, up 9.1 percent and 9.0 percent, respectively.

The added value of industries above a designated size surged 12.4 percent year-on-year, with that of mining increasing by 61.6 percent. Electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply increased by 24.8 percent.

The city's fixed-asset investment increased by 8.4 percent year-on-year, and investment in high-tech services skyrocketed by 108.8 percent.

The total retail sales of consumer goods in the city rose 5.3 percent year-on-year. They increased 5.1 percent in urban areas and 7.9 percent in rural areas.

According to statistics, the total revenue of Guiyang's public budget reached 14.38 billion yuan, and general public expenditures reached 20.16 billion yuan.

Across the city, urban per capita disposable income came in at 14,550 yuan, a nominal increase of 5.3 percent over the same period last year, while in rural areas it stood at 6,273 yuan, up 7.8 percent in nominal terms. Meanwhile, the city's consumer prices index (CPI) rose by 0.1 percent year-on-year.
