Guiyang and Gui'an see talent surge, driving innovation and growth

Data shows that Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have seen a talent inflow of more than 110,000 for three consecutive years, bringing the current number of talents to 1.52 million. The region was selected as the national youth development city construction pilot, and it ranked 27th out of 101 cities in the country in terms of innovation.
In 2023, the region's permanent resident population exceeded 6.5 million, and the net increase in Guiyang's population has exceeded 100,000 for three consecutive years.
Focusing on university and college graduates, key industries and fields, Guiyang and Gui'an have introduced 8,762 urgently needed talents, 51,400 manufacturing talents, 50,600 big data talents, and 29,700 rural practical talents, as well as attracted 311,000 graduates to work and start businesses over the past three years.
In terms of talent cultivation, Guiyang and Gui'an have fostered 114 expert talents at the provincial and national levels, 128 talents who receive a special allowance from the State Council or the provincial government, and over 2,100 high-level innovative young talents.
At the Second National Vocational Skills Competition, Guiyang won three silver medals, one bronze medal and 26 honourable mentions, ranking first in the province. This year, Guiyang and Gui'an plan to organize various vocational training sessions covering 40,000 people and add 44,500 talents.
Moreover, a total of 498 national and provincial platforms including key laboratories, engineering technology research centers and academician workstations were established in Guiyang and Gui'an to further cultivate talents, and the region invested 996 million yuan ($136 million) to help talents engage in innovation and entrepreneurship.
In addition, Guiyang and Gui'an continue to optimize talent policies, distributing talent introduction subsidies for enterprises and various talent subsidies. Over the past three years, more than 450,000 jobs have been offered in the region for graduates.
