In the first quarter of 2024, the total retail sales of consumer goods in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, amounted to 66.95 billion yuan ($9.24 billion). This represented a year-on-year increase of 5.3 percent, surpassing the national average growth rate by 0.6 percentage points. Guiyang ranked fifth among the 26 provincial capital cities in the country and secured the top position among the 10 western cities.

During the May Day holiday, Guiyang saw the consumption amount reach 6.99 billion yuan, increasing 7.13 percent year-on-year and ranking first in the province. Consumer visits grew 7.5 percent year-on-year to 10.31 million.

Moving forward, Guiyang is set to focus on summer tourism and the trade-in of the old consumer goods policy to bolster consumption. Efforts are also expected to be made to accelerate the operation of projects such as the Mixc, DC Plaza, Xinyin leisure block, and specialty stores of Guiyang's time-honored brands to meet the diverse consumption needs of local and non-local customers.

In addition, Guiyang is not solely concentrating on local consumption but is also actively seeking to attract consumption from beyond the city. The city aims to integrate the themed week of China Tourism Day, the Guiyang Marathon, and other cultural and sporting events to orchestrate large-scale promotional activities, including the shopping festival and the summer consumption season.
