International kite festival held in Guiyang

The 2024 Guiyang Baiyun International Kite Festival, National Kite Invitational Tournament, and the 15th Baiyun Kite Carnival were held on May 17-20 in Baiyun district, Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

With a focus on 20 thrilling competition items, including the traditional kite, the stunt kite, and the soft kite, the festival saw a vibrant participation of 25 domestic kite teams and 10 foreign kite teams, totaling over 150 contestants. As a gesture of inclusivity, 10,000 free kites were distributed, inviting citizens to experience the joy of kite flying.
Notably, an exhibition featuring hundreds of traditional kites from various provinces was launched at the site, showcasing the different art systems of conventional kites. Various themed activities, such as the second Guiyang Baiyun nightlight kite race, a roadside concert at Quanhu Lake, and a 500-drone show, also offered an audio-visual feast.
Take the event as a chance, various themed activities such as hanfu fete, art exhibitions, the WCA International Cube Competition, and the shopping festival were launched to inject vitality into Baiyun's consumer market. It is expected to receive 120,000 visits during the event, an increase of 20 percent year-on-year, with a comprehensive tourism income of more than 50 million yuan ($6.9 million).
