The expressway connecting Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, to Pingtang county, utilized the smart forest fire prevention system in the province's expressway construction for the first time.

The expressway spans approximately 174 kilometers and has a design speed of 100 km per hour. The 13th section of the expressway spans 9.86 km, traversing through the Pingtang National Geopark, where the forest coverage rate exceeds 70 percent. Thus, the construction of the smart thermal imaging forest fire prevention system was deemed essential to address forest fire prevention and control.

The smart forest fire prevention system utilizes a front-end thermal imaging surveillance ball with a high-definition effective pixel count exceeding 2 million, which features various functions such as thermal imaging and visible light intelligent tracking, intelligent smoke and fire detection, and temperature anomaly detection. Additionally, the system can achieve 24-hour uninterrupted forest fire patrols, coupled with a video intelligent monitoring platform.

Currently, seven monitoring points have been set up along the route, each with a monitoring radius spanning three to five km. The surveillance ball is equipped with a speaker for voice warnings, and its 3D positioning is supported to quickly determine the fire location and improve firefighting efficiency.
