The preservation and rehabilitation project of Gaodang village in Anshun, Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently earned a special mention at the Architizer A+ Awards.

Gaodang village used to face issues such as environmental degradation, low building quality, disorderly new building construction, lack of cultural features, and weak cohesion among local people.

To solve these problems, the Anshun Architectural Design Institute and Zhou Zhengxu's team from Tsinghua University started a field research and architecture design project in 2015.

After seven years of efforts, they successfully increased local awareness of cultural protection and established a traditional village and rural revitalization station to promote the development of Gaodang village.
