A distinctive fruit from Zhenning county in Southwest China's Guizhou province, known as the honey plum, recently arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, after a two-hour flight from Guiyang.

This marks the first time the fruit, which is grown in the mountainous regions of Guizhou, has been exported to the country.

The honey plum, named for its honey-like sweetness, is large with a small pit and has a crispy texture. Zhenning is currently home to over 220,000 mu (14,666.67 hectares) of planting area for honey plums, with a total output value exceeding 3 billion yuan ($423.73 million).

As a pilot area for inland open economy, Guizhou has recently accelerated opening-up, focusing on ASEAN as a key region for deepening cooperation. In 2023, Guizhou's total import and export volume with ASEAN reached 16.06 billion yuan, a 4.2-percent year-on-year increase and accounting for 21 percent of the province's total import and export volume.

In mid-May of this year, during a visit to Thailand by a delegation of the Guizhou government, it was mentioned that Guizhou hopes to deepen practical cooperation with Thai business associations and enterprises in areas such as cultural tourism, manufacturing, agriculture, and trade.

With relevant cooperation agreements gradually coming into effect, Guizhou will further deepen trade cooperation with Thailand. At the same time, it will import specialty agricultural products and other goods from Thailand.
