On May 28, mist swirled around the Tianmen grand bridge in Guizhou province, creating the impression that the 1,553-meter colossus was floating among the clouds.

The behemoth is a centerpiece of the expressway that will link Anshun and Panzhou. Suspended 560 meters above the water below, roughly the height of a 200-story building, the deck is designed for vehicles running at up to 100 kilometers per hour.

With its primary suspension cables now in place, the bridge has entered the cable-tensioning phase, inching closer to final span closure by year-end.
