Guizhou kicks off 2026 winter sports season

The 2026 Guizhou Province Winter Sports Season has kicked off at Meihuashan International Ski Resort in Liupanshui city, igniting a province-wide enthusiasm for winter sports and fitness.

This season's program brings together the province's ice and snow resources to build a comprehensive system of activities. More than 100 events — covering winter sports, nationwide fitness, and youth programs — will be launched, including winter sports carnivals and promotional tours, competitive events, and educational initiatives.

Guizhou is also promoting integrated tourism products such as "ice & snow +" packages that combine winter activities with hot springs, local culture, and gastronomy. Running through March, this season's offerings leverage sports-education integration and new stadium construction to inject fresh momentum into the province's economic and athletic development.

Guizhou is increasingly becoming a premier destination for sports enthusiasts and tourists seeking a unique ice and snow experience in the southern, lowest-latitude region of China.

The province introduced a range of measures to overcome geographical constraints on winter sports, transforming traditionally "cold" resources into a "hot" economy, and turning winter from an off-season into a peak period for both sports and tourism.
