2026 Guizhou Village Gala to celebrate ethnic culture

The 2026 Guizhou "Cunwan" (Village Gala), scheduled to air online at 8 pm on Feb 15, is set to feature Guizhou's influential "village" sports activities, including the Village Basket Association (VBA), Village Super League, Village Fashion Show, and Village Marathon.

An interactive "auntie basketball" session from the VBA will recreate the thrill of the court, with elements of the Village Super League woven into the performances to convey the passion of grassroots athletics.

The charm of Guizhou's multi-ethnic coexistence will be showcased throughout the gala, with highlights including ethnic dances and songs, costume shows of the Miao ethnic group's 1000-year-old intangible cultural heritage, and fusions of Shiqian Shuochun (a folk ritual) with rap and Tunpu Dixi Opera with hip-hop dance, unlocking new ways to pass down ancient traditions through modern trends.

Beyond the main venue at the Taipan VBA stadium, festivities will extend to branch venues in Liping, Sandu, Anshun, Guiyang, and Tongzi. This setup will offer an open, celebratory experience that extends not just to the stage but to the stands, not just inside the arena but far beyond it.
