Guizhou's Weng'an county builds high-quality tea supply chain

Development of the tea industry in Weng'an county, Southwest China's Guizhou province, was hindered in the past by poor transportation, outdated processing technologies, and restricted sales channels, making it difficult to convert the county's high-quality tea resources into commercial and economic advantages.

To overcome this, Weng'an has utilized its ideal climate, soil, and tea resources by introducing a series of targeted support policies. By offering subsidies, incentives, and interest-free loans across the entire supply chain, the county has laid a policy foundation for the industry's transformation and upgrading.

Over the past decade, Weng'an has cultivated six towns and townships with over 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) of tea plantations each, as well as 17 specialized villages with over 1,000 mu each. With the total area of tea plantations under cultivation reaching 200,000 mu, the county has established itself as one of Guizhou's key green tea-producing areas.

Tapping into the surging demand for modern tea drinks and matcha, Weng'an has developed over 20,000 mu of high-quality tencha bases. In 2025, the county's total tencha harvest reached 1,065 metric tons, all of which met EU organic certification standards.

Today, Weng'an boasts 39 leading tea enterprises at the national, provincial, prefectural, and county levels. The county features 29 fully operational tencha production lines, with three tea enterprises obtaining EU organic certification and 23 securing safety and quality certification. As a result, the brand influence and market recognition of Weng'an tea continue to rise.
