Guizhou University team brings green pest control tech to Zambia

A team led by Professor Zang Liansheng, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide at Guizhou University, recently traveled to Zambia to participate in technical exchanges and joint initiatives on green pest control.

During the visit, the team worked with the China-Zambia Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center. The two sides held in-depth consultations on the discovery and commercialization of natural predators against the fall armyworm, as well as joint research, resource sharing, and talent exchanges. These discussions culminated in the signing of a letter of intent, marking the start of practical cooperation between the two regions in green fall armyworm management.

At an academic seminar hosted by the University of Zambia, the team delivered a presentation on their self-developed biological control system for fall armyworm management. They shared cutting-edge technologies and hands-on field experience in the mass rearing of beneficial insects and their application in sustainable agriculture.

The team also conducted field surveys in Zambia's primary maize-producing regions to assess the spread and impact of fall armyworm. They also met with officials from Zambia's Ministry of Agriculture to discuss the mass rearing of native beneficial insects and the localization of eco-friendly pest control models, thereby supporting local food security and sustainable agricultural growth.

The visit laid a strong foundation for cross-border research, technology demonstration, and agricultural talent development, drawing on Chinese expertise in green plant protection to advance African agriculture and contribute to Guizhou's scientific strengths to global food security.
