Italian delegation explores Miao culture in Guizhou

An Italian delegation of officials, designers, artists and media professionals explored the ethnic culture of Kaili, Southwest China's Guizhou province for a two-day cultural exchange from July 19 to 20, experiencing traditional Miao batik, embroidery and costumes while strengthening people-to-people ties between China and Italy.

The visitors toured local intangible cultural heritage workshops, met artisans, and learned about the craftsmanship involved in Miao embroidery and batik making. They created their own embroidered brooches and batik scarves, tried on traditional Miao attire, and gained firsthand understanding of the region's centuries-old cultural traditions.

The delegation also visited a cultural market at Miao and Dong Ethnic Customs Park in Kaili, where they explored a wide range of handmade heritage products. Their exchanges with local intangible cultural heritage inheritors focused on heritage preservation, creative design and new approaches to sharing traditional culture with international audiences. Beyond that, the guests toured Xiasi Ancient Town and a Miao village, where they experienced traditional welcoming ceremonies and bonfire celebrations.

The exchange was part of a cultural cooperation program launched alongside the Shenzhen-Milan Twin-City Fashion Week, which brought the delegation from Milan to China. According to the organizers, the initiative aims to showcase Guizhou's ethnic heritage to international visitors and overseas media platforms while fostering mutual understanding and creating new opportunities for future cross-cultural cooperation.
