2026 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week opens in Guiyang

The 2026 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week opened on July 29 in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province. By combining flagship events during the opening period with year-round regular activities, this year's cooperation week aims to deepen and broaden collaboration between China and ASEAN.

During the opening period, 35 activities are being rolled out. Throughout the year, 60 regular thematic activities will be held across China and ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia, with six of them hosted independently by local ASEAN institutions.

Compared with previous editions, this year's cooperation week features three major quality upgrades. It shifted from a primarily education-centric circle to a comprehensive, all-domain consortium spanning industry, academia, and research.

It upgraded from one-way communication and output to two-way co-building and shared benefits, and expanded from cultural and educational exchanges to cross-sectoral integration.

As a high-level international exchange initiative between China and ASEAN, the cooperation week has played an active role in advancing educational cooperation, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people friendship between Guizhou and ASEAN, while facilitating multi-field practical cooperation.

Since its inception in 2008, the cooperation week has drawn over 54,000 participants from more than 8,000 institutions across nearly 90 countries and regions, including ASEAN and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner countries.

Guizhou has established exchange and cooperation ties with over 90 universities and educational institutions in ASEAN and BRI partner countries, set up 17 overseas educational program training bases in ASEAN nations, and welcomed 20,900 international students from ASEAN countries, accounting for over 60 percent of the province's total international students.
