The "Mountains, Marshes, and Heluo" art exhibition opened on Aug 15 at Shiyuan Art Museum of White Horse Temple in Luoyang, Central China's Henan province. It is free to the public and will run until Sept 15.

Bringing together 10 contemporary artists from Southwest China, the exhibition uses painting to foster a cross-regional artistic dialogue between Central and Southwest China, tracing the roots of southwestern contemporary art.

Central China's culture has long influenced the southwestern region, and in return, Southwest China's ethnic heritage has enriched Central China’s Heluo civilization. Shaped by millennia of migration, both regions share deep cultural roots. Bringing art from Southwest China back to Luoyang, this exhibition offers a unique retrospective on civilizational development, uniting distant landscapes and the Heluo region within the walls of an ancient temple.

While all 10 artists share similar creative mediums, their diverse backgrounds infuse each piece with a distinct visual voice. History, rural-urban shifts, and the raw moods of nature are all captured in their brushstrokes, bypassing textual explanation to evoke subtle emotions that words alone cannot describe.

Grounded in the commonalities between Central and Southwest China, the exhibition weaves together diverse themes, creative techniques, and personal perspectives. Through their paintings, the artists use art as both a medium and a language, pouring years of reflection into the theme of "Mountains, Marshes, and Heluo", a timeless intersection of art and culture that delivers a profound visual and emotional influence.
