UIPM Pentathlon World Championships 2026 open in Guiyang

The UIPM Pentathlon World Championships 2026 kicked off on Aug 24 in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province. By Aug 30, over 500 athletes from over 50 countries and regions worldwide will have gathered here to compete at the highest level across four major disciplines: fencing, obstacle, swimming, and laser run (which combines running and shooting).

The Pentathlon World Championships are the highest-level annual event hosted by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) and the sport's most representative and influential event outside the Olympic Games.

At the end of the opening ceremony, a solemn medal ceremony for the men's relay was held, marking the first medals awarded in Asia under the newly implemented competition format.

During the tournament, a lakefront market is set up near the competition venue, featuring specialty coffee, craft beer, intangible cultural heritage displays, and youth sports experiences.

Semifinal and final ticket holders can also enjoy on-site gift packages, accommodation perks, dining discounts, and free general admission to 10 national A-grade scenic spots – all part of the event's push to supercharge Guiyang's summer tourism economy.
