Guiyang releases two group standards for craft beer

The Guiyang Craft Beer Association, under the guidance of the Guiyang market supervision and administration bureau, has released two group standards: Specification for the Service and Management of Craft Beer Bars and Specification for the Craft Beer Sommeliers.

Craft beer has gained significant momentum in Guiyang in recent years, with the city now hosting more than 1,200 craft beer-related shops, one of the highest densities of such venues nationwide.

The Specification for the Service and Management of Craft Beer Bars covers the entire customer journey, from entry to departure, and establishes clear operational benchmarks. It sets forth basic rules for beer procurement, storage, equipment cleaning, tapping and serving, service procedures, and complaint handling, providing taproom operators with a comprehensive code of conduct.

The Specification for the Craft Beer Sommeliers defines a clearer competency framework for sommelier services, encompassing brewing knowledge, flavor profiling, tasting skills, food-and-beer pairing, and practical operations such as tapping, cleaning, and pipeline maintenance. It also offers a solid foundation for industry training, assessment, and talent development.

The release of the two group standards addresses real-world needs arising from the industry's development. It also provides standard-based support for Guiyang's craft beer sector to transition from "more venues" to "better services", and from "mere consumption" to "quality consumption".

This initiative represents another exploration by Guiyang in applying standardization tools to support specialized local industries. By transforming industry practices into codified standards, the city aims to guide businesses toward compliant operations, service improvement, and enhanced self-discipline.

The standards are designed to better serve the industry, consumers, and broader development, adding a new layer of quality assurance to the distinctive consumption experience of "Cool Guiyang".
