In recent years, the digital economy based on big data, digital technology, and modern internet has become the country's main way of improving core competitiveness in industries.

Southwest China's Guizhou province has taken the opportunity to industrialize its digital economy, digitalize its industries, and apply digital technology in social governance.

In the digital economy era, computing power is productivity. Guizhou has among the most super-large data centers in the world and is home to various enterprises with strong computing power.

Guiyang and the Guian New Area, both in Guizhou, have attracted data centers belonging to Apple, Huawei, and Tencent in an effort to build a demonstration base for data centers in South China.

In 2020, Guizhou invested 14.6 billion yuan ($2.28 billion) into big data infrastructure, establishing more than 20,000 5G base stations and achieving full coverage of 5G networks in all counties.

To promote the grading of a middle-and-high-end industrial chain for the data industry, Guizhou will work to cultivate and attract data enterprises to strengthen its market. Guizhou has proposed cultivating its own digital product brands in artificial intelligence, 5G, blockchain, and the platform economy by 2022.

The digital economy is expected to drive the high-quality growth of Guizhou's economy, and the province will continue establishing a national big data comprehensive pilot area, promoting the in-depth integration of big data and the real economy, enhancing the influence of key big data enterprises, participating in global digital economy competition, and increasing the digital economy's share of GDP.
