At the 38th International Bridge Conference, which was held in Shaanxi's provincial capital of Xi'an on June 16, the Pingtang Bridge in Southwest China's Guizhou province won the Gustav Lindenthal Medal, which is the most prestigious award issued at the conference.

The Pingtang Bridge is Guizhou's third bridge to win the award, following the Beipan River First Bridge and the Yachi River Bridge.

The bridge is a three-tower cable-stayed bridge with the widest span of any bridge in the world located in a mountainous area.

The Pingtang Bridge is part of Guizhou's Pingtang-Luodian Expressway. It is 2,135 meters long and crosses the Caodu River Canyon. Construction started in 2016 and the bridge opened to traffic on Dec 31, 2019.

The Pingtang-Luodian Expressway starts from the Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture's Pingtang county and connects Luodian county with the Huishui-Luodian part of the Yinchuan-Baise Expressway.
