Southwest China's Guizhou province recently set up 50 smart first aid stations in public areas such as schools, communities, airports, train stations, squares, and major scenic areas to ensure that people in need are treated as quickly as possible.

Each first aid station is equipped with one automated external defibrillator (AED), one stretcher, one wheelchair, one sphygmomanometer, one infrared thermometer, some medical consumables, and medicine.

The first aid stations cover the cities of Guiyang, Zunyi, Liupangshui, Anshun and Bijie, as well as the Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture. Each station is equipped with 10-20 volunteers to teach the public about self and mutual medical aid.

The smart first aid stations give people access to free medical supplies and can aid in rescuing people suffering from sudden cardiac arrest or other emergencies before ambulances arrive.

Guiyang, Zunyi, and Bijie are home to 88 AEDs at assembly occupancies.

Guizhou plans to introduce more smart first aid stations in more public areas, offer medical aid training to employees involved in public security, firefighting, public transportation, tours, and building construction, and establish an association of medical aid volunteers to respond to medical emergencies.

Meanwhile, Guizhou will work to spread medical aid knowledge within enterprises, schools, government organizations, communities, rural areas, families, and public areas, and encourage local governments to send first aid kits to citizens.
