There was great fanfare as the Zunyi-Yuqing Expressway in Southwest China's Guizhou province – which is exactly 93.86 kilometers long – opened to traffic on July 1.

The new expressway connects Zunyi city's Yuqing county, Meitan county, Bozhou district and the Qiannan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture's Weng'an county.

With the expressway, the trip between Yuqing and Zunyi will be shortened from 3 hours to 70 minutes of driving, which is expected to contribute to the rural revitalization and economic development of areas along the expressway.

According to statistics, bridges and tunnels account for 56.69 percent of the expressway. The longest tunnel is the Taozitai tunnel, which is over 3,100 meters long.

To solve the problem of complicated geological conditions during construction, the contractors applied new technologies, processes, materials and equipment to ensure safety.
