Guizhou green tea boosts agriculture development

Since Guizhou's green tea was industrialized as a geographical indication product, the province has helped 277 enterprises make use of about 700,000 geographical indication trademarks, an increase of 66 percent year-on-year.

Tea enterprises have participated in more than 30 business promotion events, generating 200 million yuan ($30.89 million) in on-the-spot sales and more than 2 billion yuan in purchase-and-sales agreements.

The Administration for Market Regulation of Guizhou Province offered 800,000 yuan to support green tea industrialization, while Guizhou's green tea brand development promotion association established regional standards for Guizhou matcha.

Enterprises involved in Guizhou's green tea industrialization project have a total tea planting area of 600,000 mu (40,000 hectares), helping more than 100,000 people out of poverty.

Guizhou Lixiang Tea Industry based in Meitan county is the first enterprise to use the "Guizhou green tea" geographical indication trademark, and is also a partner of Guizhou's green tea industrialization project.

Around 80 percent of the enterprise's products currently use the trademark, boosting the enterprise's sales value by 20 percent last year.

Guizhou is currently exploring the role of geographical indications in leading industrialization to contribute to the province's tea industry, rural revitalization, and agricultural modernization.
