Southwest China's Guizhou province held an online meeting with Vitebsk Oblast in Belarus on Aug 25 to sign a relationship agreement and discuss education cooperation.

Vitebsk Oblast is located near Belarus' border with Russia and is Belarus' major raw material and energy production area, while Guizhou is a Chinese province with a strong economy and development environment and many business opportunities.

Since Guizhou and Vitebsk signed an agreement of intent to establish relations in 2015, the two areas have achieved progress in business, culture, tourism, and education cooperation.

University presidents from both areas talked at the meeting to promote education cooperation, which led to the signing of several cooperation agreements between Guizhou and Vitebsk universities.

Oleg Matskevich, first deputy chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, said that the establishment of the relationship will contribute to multilateral cooperation in education, science, culture, and society, and help people from China and Belarus better respect and understand each other.
