Southwest China's Guizhou province reported no locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, no asymptomatic cases and no suspected cases on Oct 28, according to the Guizhou Health Commission.

Currently, Guizhou has 11 confirmed cases being treated and one asymptomatic case, all reported in the city of Zunyi.

Zunyi's third round of nucleic acid testing for all residents of Honghuagang district, Huichuan district, Bozhou district and Xinpu New Area was completed on Oct 28.

The test examined samples from 1.75 million people. So far, the test results of the three rounds of nucleic acid tests have all been negative, which means the spread of the novel coronavirus in Zunyi has been successfully contained, said Yin Wenwu, leader of the pandemic prevention and control team assigned by the State Council in Guizhou.

According to Yin, all new cases were reported in centralized quarantine areas, meaning that community transmission has been prevented, allowing control measures to be removed so that people can return to normal life in the near future.

When the first COVID-19 case was reported in Zunyi on Oct 19, experts responded immediately to track down the virus, screen close contacts and lock down at-risk areas. Citizens also cooperated with medical workers to take nucleic acid tests and stay at home, helping stop the spread of the virus.

Yin also reminded the public that the virus is still spreading inside and outside the country, and that individuals and government departments should continue taking measures to stop its spread.
