Guizhou launches five-year industry energy-saving plan

The industry and information technology department of Southwest China's Guizhou province recently released an industry energy program to be rolled out during the course of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.

Under the plan, Guizhou will meet its industrial energy saving targets goals by 2025, which include improving its efficiency of energy use, improving resources utilization and improving its eco-friendly manufacturing system.

Other targets are converting more than 50 percent of its industrial parks to being environmentally friendly, establishing more than 200 green factories, cultivating green design products, building green supply chains and establishing demonstration enterprises for green industrial product designs.

Currently, Guizhou is facing the problems of having an unbalanced industrial structure, untapped energy-saving potential, insufficient investment in energy-saving and insufficient capacity in terms of innovating in energy-saving technologies.

The plan is expected to help Guizhou to innovate and apply energy-saving technologies, promote energy-saving equipment – as well as to optimize energy systems in the energy, materials, chemistry, building materials and data center industries.

The plan is designed to incentivize enterprises to update their old equipment and apply new products in key manufacturing processes, apply new technologies in energy saving, use digital technologies to monitor energy efficiency, as well as to adopt highly efficient energy consumption equipment in production systems.

The plan also reportedly gives consideration to other industrial development plans and policies and suggests eight main energy-saving tasks.

These tasks are promoting structural energy-saving in industries, promoting innovation and the application of energy-saving technologies, improving the management of industrial energy consumption and encouraging low-carbon industrial development – as well as establishing green manufacturing systems, promoting the green development of industrial parks, improving the city's ability to engage in clean production and utilizing its renewable resources.
