Southwest China's Guizhou province and Ecuador's Pichincha province signed a memorandum to boost exchange and cooperation at an online meeting held on Nov 10.

The memorandum states that Guizhou and Pichincha will carry out cooperation in traditional medicine, mountain tourism and the flower industry in the future.

According to the memorandum, Guizhou will offer traditional medicine training for Pichincha's medical workers, send experts in traditional Chinese medicine to Pichincha, and establish a traditional Chinese medicine center there.

As a founder of the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) and home to IMTA's headquarters, Guizhou has more than 460 national A-level scenic spots and aims to become an internationally famous destination for mountain tourism, while Pichincha also boasts rich tourism attractions.

Guizhou and Pichincha will establish a partnership and become mutual tourism destinations, promoting mountain resource protection and the sustainable development of mountain tourism.

Guizhou currently has 1.2 million mu (80,000 hectares) of flower plantations and is turning about 1 million mu of tobacco planting areas into flower plantations. Guizhou hopes to take the memorandum as an opportunity to introduce advanced flower planting technologies and experiences from Pichincha.

At the meeting, a cooperation memorandum between IMTA and the Pichincha government was also signed, and a clinical technology seminar on acupuncture was co-launched by Guizhou and Pichincha.

Paola Pabón, prefect of Pichincha province, said that the memorandum will contribute to regional cooperation and help Pichincha go global to showcase its historical culture, biological resources and production experience.

Pichincha is home to Ecuador's capital city of Quito, and has important political and economic significance in the country. It established friendly ties with Guizhou in 2009.
