Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has the most taxis in the world using methanol fuel, according to recent data released by the Guiyang Bureau of Ecology and the Environment.

Currently, all methanol taxis use special fuels including 1-percent carbon content, 22-percent diesel and 13-percent gasoline, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12 percent compared with pure gasoline.

According to the air quality report released by the Ministry of Ecology and the Environment in September, Guiyang ranked fourth among China's provincial capitals with 100 percent of days featuring good or excellent air quality.

As one of the first pilot cities to use methanol taxis, Guiyang now boasts more methanol taxis than any other city in the world, and has formed a methanol economy industrial chain.

Statistics show that Guiyang's methanol taxis consume 250,000 metric tons of methanol fuel annually, which is equal to 150,000 tons of gasoline.

In recent years, Guizhou has established a complete system for the manufacture and sale of and services for methanol vehicles, and guaranteed the transportation and supply of methanol fuel.

The province is currently exploring the application of methanol fuel for private family cars as well.
