Starting January this year, Kaili city in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, Southwest China's Guizhou province, opened its first-aid call center to send patients to the nearest hospital.

This is part of Hu Guozhen's medical reform efforts. Hu is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and former vice-head of Qiandongnan.

People in Kaili used to need to call different numbers for different hospitals during an emergency. At the end of 2021, under Hu's suggestion, Qiandongnan's first-aid call center became an isolated institution and started to dispatch ambulances from throughout the city to provide efficient and convenient emergency services for locals.

The call center covers all kinds of hospitals in Kaili, and will cover more hospitals at the prefecture, county and township levels.

Hu also promoted the integrated development of Qiandongnan Psychiatric Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University to better serve patients.

With the help of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, Qiandongnan Psychiatric Hospital's bed occupancy rate has increased from less than 30 percent to 100 percent.

This year, Hu started holding the post of vice-president of the CPPCC Qiandongnan committee. She studies families that have lost their only child, had their only child become disabled, and rural families that have only two daughters, both of whom have married and moved far away. She will submit proposals providing elderly care to these families at this year's national two sessions.
