Guizhou features green agricultural products

Southwest China's Guizhou province had 31 food products recognized as organic this year, bringing the total number of green food products to 391, according to a news conference held in the provincial capital Guiyang on July 6.

In recent years, Guizhou's agriculture and rural affairs departments have strengthened law enforcement and supervision, promoted the quality management of agricultural products in rural areas, and implemented a certificate system for agricultural products.

Due to the departments' efforts to improve agricultural product quality and safety supervision, no major quality or safety incidents related to agricultural products have occurred in the province.

Guizhou has been focusing on featured agricultural sectors such as tea, vegetables and fruits to develop green food, organic agricultural products and agricultural products with geographical indications.

It has also given full play to its advantages in terms of the environment and mountains to enhance its traditional farming culture. Guizhou currently boasts 154 agricultural products with geographical indications, ranking eighth in the country.

Guizhou encourages all companies, cooperatives and family farms involved in vegetables, fruits, livestock, eggs and aquatic products to issue certificates of edible agricultural products.

They have also been directed to promise not to use banned or restricted pesticides, veterinary drugs, or illegal additives and abide by the provisions of pesticides and veterinary drug usage, sell edible agricultural products that meet national mandatory standards for food safety of pesticides and veterinary drug residues, and be responsible for product quality and the authenticity of certificates.

So far, Guizhou's 6,104 business entities have issued 838,100 certificates for 852,900 metric tons of agricultural products.
