Two schools in Zhenning Bouyei and Miao autonomous county attended the 2022 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, which is being held in Guian New Area, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 22-28.

Zhenning Minzu Middle School showcased the farming culture of the Bouyei ethnic group at its exhibition area. Students dressed in traditional costumes demonstrated the making of batik, puppets, embroidery, and glutinous rice in five colors.

The colorful glutinous rice is dyed with vegetable dyes and good for health. Each color of rice has a different taste, making it popular among visitors.

The Baimahu Sub-district Central School decorated its exhibition area with fans, clothes, dolls, lamps, pillows, scarves, handbags, mirrors and wax prints made of or related to batik.

Guests learned to create wax prints with the students and were impressed by the batik products showcased at the exhibition area.

Zhenning's schools and kindergartens are currently exploring ethnic culture with local features and encouraging students to help pass on the culture.

The two schools have included Bouyei batik, embroidery and music as elective courses for students.

Cheng Duanrong, headmaster of Zhenning Minzu Middle School, said that it was the second time the school attended the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week. She said she hopes more people can learn about Zhenning's ethnic culture.
